Activities in the area

The Hatfield area offers something for every outdoor enthusiast.  Fishing and boating are fantastic on Lake Arbutus. Hikers and mountain bikers will find great woodland trails. ATVers can ride hundreds of miles of the best trails in Wisconsin.

 

Recreation options are abound in the Hatfield and Black River Falls area. Choose from the many list of activities:  ATVing, UTVing and Single Track Motorcycling, Boating, Canoeing & Kayaking, Fishing, Golf, Disc Golf, Hiking, Hunting, Mountain Biking, Scuba Diving, Skiing & Winter Sports and Snowmobiling.

LAKE ARBUTUS

Lake Arbutus is a beautiful 774 acre lake located within walking distance of The Whippoorwill Lodge.  It offers excellent recreational opportunities, including fishing, water-skiing, swimming and pleasure boating. 

ATVing and UTVing

The area is known for having some of the best ATV and single-track motorcycle trails in the Midwest. ATVers can ride more than 100 miles through Jackson County and an additional 135 miles through neighboring Clark County.

MOUNTAIN BIKING

The Levis Mound and Trow Mound recreational trail in Southern Clark County, has become one of the best trail destinations in the Midwest. The Black River State Forest has 24 miles of designated mountain bike trails and Wazee Park is home to a nine-mile mountain biking trail that follows the old Jackson County iron mine sites and provides breathtaking vistas of eastern Jackson County. In addition to the designated trails, the Black River State Forest and Jackson County Forest have several hundred miles of forest and old logging roads open to mountain bike travel and will give you a one-of-a-kind off-road experience.

LAKE WAZEE
Swimming and Scuba Diving

Wazee Lake is a nearby 146 acre lake and is one of the best dives in the Midwest.  At 355 feet, it is the deepest and clearest lake in Wisconsin. The water is crystal clear and has lots to explore. During summer months, visibility is 30 to 40 feet—and in the winter, it can be as much as 60 feet.

Jackson County Forest and the Black River State Forest offer many opportunities for hiking. There are over 100 miles or more of hiking trails across the Black River Falls area for your enjoyment.

SNOWMOBILING

The area has over 300 miles of groomed snowmobile trails which connect to 500 miles of trails in surrounding counties.  Connections can be made to every trail in the state.
